Beaumont en Périgord
In the middle of a rolling landscape, Beaumont du Périgord is the English "first royal bastide".
Located on the Bergerac Cahors road, founded in 1272 by Lucas de Thanay, seneschal of Guyenne, this important fortified town has retained of its fortifications pierced by 16 gates only the Luzier gate through which one enters the town today.
While most of the bastides are built on a quadrangular plan, Beaumont is H-shaped, designed by King Edward I in memory of his father, Henry III.
Discover the Church of St Front, whose defensive character is highlighted by 4 towers and a patrol path. It is probably one of the most beautiful fortified religious buildings in the South West of France.
