Proumeyssac Chasm

Today, we descend into the bowels of the earth... Into a chasm, which since the 17th century has provoked fear and aroused curiosity... The Trou de Promeissat ... To stop it from shaking, the villagers cover it with a masonry lid... It was in 1907 that a courageous scientist explored the chasm and did not find the devil there, but splendid concretions , basins and majestic crystallizations . He and his fellows visited it in a wooden basket , with a horse that held the rope. More than 100 years after its discovery, the Gouffre de Proumeyssac in Le Bugue attracts 130,000 visitors per year! You can visit it in a gondola (made of metal, powered by a motor!) or on foot , always on a guided tour to enjoy of the magic who is hiding there… new sounds and lights highlight the cavity, for our greatest pleasure!
